Visa/Travel Process

Getting to Thailand from Abroad - Thailand Pass

Before applying, it would be wise to do your research to determine whether or not you are willing and able to cover the costs and go through the process associated with traveling to Thailand at the moment. There are a couple of options available to you that involve getting something called a “Thailand Pass.” The entire process for each option can be read in more detail on this page.

Please note that as of the beginning of March the “Test & Go” option that involves a 1 night stay in a certified hotel upon arrival in Thailand has just been reinstated. This option does not require longer term quarantine outside of this one night in a hotel. However, just understand that due to the uncertainty of the COVID situation, this info could change quite rapidly. Please continue to check the links that we have provided on this page frequently for news and updates. This is where we get all of our info, so please educate yourself via these sources of info so that our team can avoid spending unnecessary time explaining information that can be found with a little bit of personal research. Thank you for your effort and cooperation.

Although the video below is quite helpful to guide you through the process, the rules and regulations could be different based off of when you apply. Again rules change quickly, but at the very least the video below will help you as you apply for the Thailand pass. It would be most convenient for you to choose a flight and book an approved hotel in Chiang Mai.

Getting to the Pa Pae Meditation Retreat from Chiang Mai

If you are in need of public transportation, you have a few options that are detailed in this link. If you decide to take the van (which is the most affordable and popular option) then please make sure to reserve your ticket ahead of time as they can often run outReserve your ticket from Chiang Mai Arcade to Pai (or vice versa if you are coming from Pai) through this link. Pa Pae is about half way between Pai and Chiang Mai, so this is the right route to take.

However, you must clearly tell both the person at the ticket counter and your driver that you want to get off at Aw Baw Dtaw Pa Pae, otherwise, they will pass that stop, since it is not a typical stopping place. This has happened multiple times to previous participants, and it will require you to buy another ticket back the other way. If it is too late, you will have to find accommodation and wait for the following day.

In order to make sure that this doesn’t happen, show your driver the following sentence in Thai, which clearly says the stop you want to get off at.

ฉันอยากลงที่อบต.ป่าแป๋

Once you get off at the stop, please call P Than at 084-093-8383 and he can come pick you up at the stop and bring you to the retreat grounds. Otherwise, you can follow the signs and walk 1km to our site.
